This report gives a brief account of the work of the Institute during 1989. Work was carried out on 13 diseases of cattle (including bovine spongiform encephalopathy, bovine immunodeficiency virus, and mastitis), 8 of pigs (including atrophic rhinitis, swine dysentery and African swine fever), 16 of poultry (including chicken anaemia agent, coccidiosis, leukosis and turkey rhinotracheitis), 3 of sheep (bluetongue, scrapie, pox), and 4 other studies (African horse sickness, equine herpesvirus, inflammation, and immunology).
