This article is a summary of a thesis for a masters degree in sociology at the University of Trondheim, Norway. Subjects discussed in the article are: --Responsibility in medical practise. --Fear of failure --Involvement The study consisted of semi-structured interviews with 30 physicians. They all worked at the same university hospital. Responsibility varied - from being a value to being a cause of strain. Fear of failure makes, the physicians extra attentive, but it can also cause stress. The physician may be an expert technically, but 25 of 30 doctors will be involved from time to time in patient tragedies.
