Analysis of glycosaminoglycans in the blood of patients by the orcinol method

The blood glycosaminoglycans (GAG) were measured by the orcinol+ method in patients with burns. The orcinol+ reaction was found to depend on the hydrochloric acid concentration in orcinol+ reagent and on the length of the sample incubation. The blood serum GAG levels increase in burn disease, reflecting the severity of the thermal injury.
