This study was designed to analyze the work of women's consultation clinics and maternity homes on antitobacco propaganda among pregnant women. 428 physicians were interviewed. It was shown that 21.7% of physicians at these clinics and 22.9% of those at maternity homes were continuously engaged in such activities. The majority of physicians discussed tobacco smoking only in the cases where the patients had smoking-associated problems. It was recommended that the antitobacco propaganda be intensified and that it become incumbent upon physicians to provide health education in this area. (author's modified)
