Modified lateral projection in acute elbow injuries

MOdified lateral projection (LP45) was assessed in a prospective investigation of 131 consecutive patients with acute trauma to the elbow region. Evidence of intra-articular effusion was demonstrated in 62 patients. Thirty-six fractures were identified. The LP45 projection provided valuable supplementary information in 16 patients compared with the standard projections (antero-posterior and lateral) and improvement in relation to the proportion of fractures of 50%. The authors recommend this projection as a routine in cases of acute trauma in the elbow region.
