In this review aetiology, clinical and psychiatric features, sometimes involving non-specific symptoms and problems of detection and accurate diagnosis of vitamin B-12 deficiency are examined. Limitations of the various individual tests are discussed. It is thought that vitamin B-12 replacement by injection 3 or 4 times a year would prevent recurrence of deficiency.
