Viral affection of the peripheral blood and bone marrow monocytes has been revealed in 14 out of the 46 patients with a portal hypertension syndrome secondary to liver cirrhosis and gastroesophageal hemorrhagic complications. Virus persistence in the blood and bone marrow cells is one of the crucial factors of hypersplenism and the effectiveness of its surgical treatment.
