Oral glucose tolerance test at each trimester of pregnancy

Oral glucose tolerance tests, a 100 g, were studied in 66, 188 and 182 normal pregnant women during the first, second and third trimester respectively. The results showed no statistical difference among mean serum glucose values of fasting, and 1 h in all trimesters likewise to 2 and 3 h values among the first and second trimester. The 2 h values in the second trimester were lower than those of the third trimester (p = 0.001). Again, the 3 h values in the first and second trimester were also lower than the third. (p = 0.051). The physiological changes of carbohydrate metabolism for each trimester of pregnancy should be taken into account while interpreting the oral glucose tolerance test during pregnancy.
