R. longleyi sp. nov. is described from preserved specimens of the ictalurid fish from artesian wells in Bexar County, Texas, USA. 4 of 9 T. pattersoni (type host) and 2 of 3 S. eurystomus were infected. Of the 8 known species of Rhabdochona from North America freshwater fish, R. longleyi most resembles R. cotti in the rounded tail tip, filamentous eggs and spicule size. The new species is characterized by having only 6 anterior teeth on the prostom (a primitive character within the genus), simple deirids, by spicule shape and length, smaller body and other features. In spite of the small number of anterior teeth, the new species is placed in the subgenus Rhabdochona and is the 2nd species within the genus reported from subterranean waters.
