Histochemical techniques for the demonstration of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, and nonspecific esterase in testicular tissue sections are described. Positive histochemical reaction of G6PDH, 6PGDH, and nonspecific esterase activity was observed in the interstitial tissue of young and adult rats. Significant increase of nonspecific esterase activity was only noted in testes from mature animals. The technique with semipermeable membranes prevents enzyme diffusion and allows to demonstrate the total activity of investigated enzymes.
