Development strategies of Asian Countries during the past two decades are reviewed. In some Asian countries the emphasis is on industrialization at the expense of an underdeveloped agricultural infrastructure. The lack of self sufficiency in food grains is the major disturbing factor of economic development. For such countries, it is important that they adopt strategies to create a closely interdependent relationship between agriculture and the non-agricultural sectors. Disparities in food production, food distribution and consumption between advanced and developing countries are examined. Suitable development strategies and international co-operation are needed to reduce food and agricultural problems in developing Asian countries.
