A combination of epi-doxorubicin and cis-platinum was administered to 14 adult patients with refractory acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Complete doses (three courses of epi-doxorubicin, 70 mg/sq m, i.v. one day, and cis-platinum, 70 mg/sq m, i.v. one day, repeated every third week) were applied in all cases, but none of the patients achieved complete remission. Partial remission was attained in two cases, lasting 6 and 10 weeks, respectively. All patients have died as a consequence of leukaemia. Severe myelosuppression and vomiting were present in all cases. This combination chemotherapy has proven useless and toxic, so it seems of little efficacy in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia of adults.
