Light and electron microscopy showed myelinated neurons to be present in the central nervous system of the hedgehog, both in the glomerular layer of the olfactory bulb and in the granule cell layer of the cerebellum. In both the cases the neurons were enveloped by myelin either completely or partially. There were distinct differences in the morphological organization between the two areas under study, which are explained by us by different mechanisms of origin of myelin sheaths.
