In this experimental study in rats a subcutaneous arteriovenous loop is created in order to induce an axial pedicle flap. The authors try to determine whether a neoangiogenesis can appear from the loop to the cutaneous territory. Their criteria are therefore the macroscopic appearance, the clinical vitality of the cutaneous sector and the results of microradiographic techniques. If arterial and venous neoangiogenesis can arise from this techniques kind of loop, the resulting flap can be used as a free flap.
