Isolation of fractions rich in Y sperm by means of differential motility using hen's egg yolk as the medium: a preliminary report

Human spermatozoa from 25 individuals were studied. The spermatozoa were placed on top of hen's egg yolk column and allowed to move downward in the column for 2 h. It was found that in 20 percent egg yolk and 8 cm column length the percentage of Y sperm increased from 46.8 to 73.5 when the spermatozoa reached the bottom of the column. The result of the study indicates that hen's egg yolk can be used as a medium for isolation of fractions rich in Y sperm.
