Nodulectomies were performed in a hypoendemic area on the Rio Santiago and in a hyperendemic area on the River Cayapas, Ecuador. All palpable nodules were removed. In the hypoendemic area the nodulectomies had a positive effect in reducing the intensity of infections and they contributed in the control of the advancement of the disease. In the hyperendemic area also a positive effect was observed but new nodules developed rapidly.
