An indirect haemagglutination test for T. cruzi infection was performed on 1000 pregnant women and their newborn infants in Santiago, Chile. It was positive in 27 mothers and 18 infants. None of the mothers or infants showed clinical symptoms of infection. 7 mothers and 3 infants were positive by xenodiagnosis.
