Human reproduction has 2 components. The 1st is the reproduction of human lives and the 2nd is the reproduction of labor force. The reproduction of human lives depends on environmental resources -- e.g., food, water, and land, as well as proper population density and population structure. To enhance the reproduction of lives, it is necessary to improve the quality of genes and to improve the living environment. In the process of reproduction of lives, resources and energy are consumed. The continued reproduction of lives needs the proper balance between the existence and the consumption of energy and resources. The current population in China is too large for its available resources and for its environmental situation. Promoting decline of fertility and improving the quality of population is essential. Reproduction of labor force includes the reproduction of physical and mental capability and reproduction of products of labor. Both kinds of reproduction depend on the suitable environmental and socioeconomic conditions. In the modern world, technological development needs highly trained, skilled workers. Increasing the education of workers is one of the major tasks of labor reproduction. Meanwhile, the skills of labor are also increased through consumption and reproduction of materials. As part of the labor force, workers are restricted by the level of productivity of a society and the availability of production materials. On the other hand, a person's need to consume is unconditional. Under such circumstance, the reproduction of human lives should be compatible with the growth of productivity and materials available for consumption. In view of the above restrictions and needs, the reproduction of human lives is to be kept within the range that is sustainable under the stage of the economic development and environmental conditions.
