The zoapatle aqueous crude extract (ZACE) made from Montanoa frutescens was purified using Sephadex G-50 filtration and lyophilization. An amber solid material soluble in water which gave positive reaction to Lowry's reagent was obtained. A molecular weight estimation using elution parameters failed into the 30,000 range. The fraction was several times more potent than ZACE and showed the same biological responses previously described for the tea.
