Fy (a-b-) phenotype in a Spanish family of the Caucasoid race

A caucasian woman carrying the Fy(a-b-) red cell phenotype is presented. This is the fourth such case reported so far in the literature, and the first one detected in our country. The different techniques used both to confirm the phenotype and to search for other markers characteristic of Negroes are commented. The causes which might explain the presence of this phenotype in non-Negro subjects are finally commented.
