An unusual diet-derived inflammatory dermatosis in a Dalmatian dog responds to orgotein

Inflammatory lesions accompanied by hair loss, developed on the paws, elbow and tail of a totally deaf, three-year-old Dalmatian dog. As the disorders progressed the animal lost weight, the gums became pale and ulcerated, and bleeding occurred from the tail lesion. A diagnosis of allergic dermatitis was made, based on the results of haemograms and liver function tests. The condition cleared up after stopping the feeding of brewer's yeast and changing the protein to maize; also by a course of s/c injections of orgotein.
