An automated technique was developed for simultaneously evaluating mixtures of sulfamethazine and procaine penicillin in feed premixes each at levels of 20 g/lb. The system involves the separation of these drugs by an alkaline-chloroform extraction followed by the Bratton-Marshall color determination performed on each resulting phase. Quantitation progresses at a rate of 20 samples or 40 assays/ hr and is accomplished by direct comparison of samples to appropriate standards treated in a like manner.
