Ambulatory surgical treatment of umbilical and epigastric hernia

In our Department, 138 patients with umbilical hernia and 107 patients with epigastric hernia were submitted to ambulatory surgical treatment. The criteria of selection, the surgical, and pre and post operative care are discussed. There were only two recurrences in cases of epigastric hernia and one in those of umbilical hernia. It is our opinion that the surgical treatment of these conditions can be efficiently and safely carried out in an out patient department.
