A strain of virus was isolated from an American Aids patient by using MT-4 cells. This virus was identified as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) by means of immunofluorescence test and Western blot assay. This virus was the first isolate of HIV-1 in China and can be used for preparing the diagnostic reagents. The improved method for isolation of HIV and preparation of western blot was reported.
