Phasic flow characteristics in human left anterior descending coronary artery with stenosis and having bypass grafting were measured during cardiac surgery by a 20 MHz 80 channel pulsed Doppler velocimeter. The poststenotic flow velocity were rich in systolic flow component and characterized by the presence of irregularity and/or reverse flow near the vessels wall in the velocity profile. The broadening of the velocity spectrum measured at central axial regions suggested the flow disturbance. After the bypass grafting, marked increase in diastolic flow and diastolic-predominant flow waveform were represented which is characteristic of normal left coronary artery flow.
