Effect of transfusion of various doses of thrombocyte mass in experimental drug-induced thrombocytopenia

The influence of transfusion of varying doses of platelet mass was studied in dogs with experimental drug-induced thrombocytopenia. Transfusion of "medium" doses (0.2-0.3 .times. 1011/1) of platelet mass proved to be most effective, it induced a stable recovery of thrombocytopoiesis and the hemostasis system as a whole. Transfusion of "small" doses (0.07-0.1 .times. 1011/1) of platelet mass produced almost no positive effect, while transfusion of "large" doses (0.5-0.8 .times. 1011/1) of platelet mass led not only to the recovery of thrombocytopoiesis but also promoted the formation of a favourable background for the development of disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome, and to a decrease in the platelet number in late period after transfusion.
