IgE serum levels were determined in the cord blood and after 4 days of life in 24 full term normal infants fed with formula. The results demonstrate a significant (p < 0.02) increase of IgE serum levels from birth to the 4th day of life. This increase thus confirms the great sensitivity for the neonatal IgG response and indicates that environmental and nutritional factors may cause a significant IgE increase in only 4 days.
