Computer tomography of parotid gland tumors

The value of CT-sialography (CT scanning of the parotid gland after injection of a contrast agent into Stensen's duct) was assessed in 31 patients with palpable tumours in the parotid gland. Operation was performed on 24 of these after the examination and the remainder were submitted to needle biopsy. Good agreement was demonstrated between the CT findings and the findings at operation as regards the localization and spread of the tumour to the neighbouring regions. The investigation is recommended as a useful preoperative aid for assessing patients with tumours in the parotid region.
