Thalamic hemorrhage clinical and CT findings

We studied 72 consecutive cases (45 males and 27 females) all presenting on CT-scan thalamic hemorrhage. The cases were subdivided into five groups according to CT extension of the lesion: thalamic hemorrhage (19.4%); thalamic-capsular (26.3%); thalamic-mesencephalic (2.7%); thalamic-capsular-nuclear (20.8%); massive hemorrhage (30.5%). Intraventricular hemorrhage was present in 50 patients (69.4%). Twenty-four (33.3%) died during the first month. Clinical manifestation, etiology, prognosis and therapy have been discussed.
