The role of specific antigenemia in the pathogenesis of persistent yersiniosis (PY) was determined by examining 113 blood serum samples of 51 acute yersiniosis (AY) patients and 23 patients with a persistent disease course. Yersinia O-antigen (O-Ag) of 09 serotype was determined with the help of competitive enzyme immunoassay. The incidence of O-Ag tracing significantly decreases from the 3rd-4th week of AY, while O-Ag is revealed to the end of an acute period (12 weeks) of PY. Later antigenemia dynamics has an undulating pattern with periods of remissions and exacerbations. The long-term persistence of O-Ag in the blood flow shows that PY pathogenesis involves a specific infectious process, in addition to the nonspecific reactive process.
