Role of splenectomy in the combined treatment of children with Hodgkin's disease

The role of diagnostic laparotomy with splenectomy in combined chemo-radiotherapy of lymphogranulomatosis in children has been considered. This operation helped verifying the disease stage in 35.3% of cases. Splenectomy did not influence the course of lymphogranulomatosis in children, but they lost their resistance to viral and bacterial infections, the course of which in some patients was catastrophic and led to lethal outcomes. On the basis of their own experience the authors have presented the indications for diagnostic laparotomy with splenectomy.
