Kainic acid administered in a daily dose of 12.mu.g/g body weight for 7 consecutive days caused a statistically significant decrease in nuclear volume in neurons of the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus. This fall was evident both in young (28-day-old) and mature (120-day-old) animals. The changes were greater in the young animals and in males.
