Catecholamine antagonism to oxytocin-induced milk-ejection

In rats and rabbits the catecholamine-induced inhibition of milk-ejection was due to stimulation of mammary myoepithelial beta-receptors, resulting in myoepithelial insensitivity to oxytocin, and of vascular alpha-receptors, causing constriction of the mammary gland blood vessels.
