A study of characterization and anticoagulant properties on rat and mouse sublingual glands was performed utilizing biochemical analyses, thromboelastography and hemocoagulation screening tests. The two sublingual glands exhibited very different chemical compositions which reflect striking differences in anticoagulant properties. Glycoconjugate constituents isolated from rat SL gland produced marked alterations of all thromboelastographic parameters and hemocoagulation screening tests. Conversely, moused SL gland glycoconjugates displayed no statistically significant changes of thromboelastographic plot but induced significant modifications of Partial Thromboplastin Time.
