Sugarcane rust situation in Maharashtra

A survey was conducted in Maharashtra, India, during 1997/98-2001/02 to determine the incidence of rust (Puccinia melanocephala) on sugarcane cultivars. Sugarcane cv. Co 7527 in Kolhapur district had the highest (32.70%) average rust incidence while cv. Co 86032 in Nasik district had the lowest (0.2%) average rust incidence. Comparative data on the regional incidence of rust on different sugarcane cultivars are tabulated.
