This chapter provides an insight into the trafficking of Nepali girls for brothels in neighbouring India. The author observes the link between poverty in remote districts of Nepal and the ease with which people traffickers can lure their victims into following them away from their homes. Their efforts are aided by the prevailing cultural and religious traditions that encourage a low status for women and by the complicity of the family members who agree to send their girls to India to earn money for the family.
