This paper is concerned with results of a preliminary analysis of female labour force participation in the government-controlled sector of Cyprus. Data were taken from the multi-round demographic survey begun in 1980. Patterns of female labour force participation, the conceptual framework for understanding such participation, correlates (incentives, perceived need for income, constraints) are examined in turn. A multivariate analysis of female labour force participation is undertaken, and various conclusions drawn. It was found that factors associated with incentives to work, particularly the level of education, were important inducements to wage employment for women.
