Advances in diagnostic and treatment capabilities of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) are discussed. How PML develops, diagnosis improvements, present therapies limitations, and future treatment leads are addressed. The most significant advances against PML may be the new treatments for AIDS. This is due to anecdotal evidence of numerous patients with PML experiencing lesion remission after starting treatment with protease inhibitors.
