After approx. 15 years of clinical proof of non-precious metal alloys the difficulties of processing have been largely eliminated and the limits for indication use are drawn. The question of toxicity of the alloy metals is less aggravating for the patients than for the dental technician who is endangered by inhaling metaldusts during the process of manufacturing. Loosened and swallowed corrosion-products are quantitatively too insignificant to cause intoxication. There are far less allergic reactions than could be presumed considering the great amount of nickel-allergies. The question whether the use of non-precious metal alloys induces a higher sensitivity to allergy is at present unsettled.
