Axon reflexes differ from the Peripheral Late Waves (PLWs) (described by Tomasulo) only in that PLWs do not disappear with a supramaximal electrical stimulus. I propose that axon reflexes and PLWs derive from a single physiologic mechanism, ephaptic transmision, which when undirectional, results in PLWs and when bidirectional, results in axon reflexes.
