Cerebral arteries are characterized by a thin wall in relation to their lumina. After closure of the fontanelles the structure of the arteries changes. The Membrana elastica interna vanishes and the cerebrospinal liquor shares in suppporting the arterial wall. Also Vasa vasorum and nerve fibres could be observed at the cerebral arteries. There are different possibilities in order to regulate the blood pressure at the base of the brain.
