Study of a new Soviet diuretic buphenox in 62 patients with cardiac failure has proved its high effectiveness for the treatment of this condition, including that type of cardiac failure that is refractory to other diuretics. The effective dose is 1 mg, action begins 45-90 minutes after administration and continues 5-7 hours; in the diuretic effect 1 mg of buphenox corresponds to 40 mg of furosemide. The diuretic effect of buphenox is assocaited with sodiumchloruretic action; it is mildly toxic and produces beneficial effect in combination with cardiac glycosides and other diuretics.
