Twelve cardiac output measurements were determined in 6 patients by both thermodilution and ultrasound Doppler methods. Cardiac output determined by the suprasternal Doppler technique demonstrated a correlation of r. = 0.85 in relation to that obtained by thermodilution techniques (p < 0.0005). It is therefore, concluded that this non-invasive technique may play an important role in the evaluation of hemodynamic data in the critically-ill.
