The process of inter-district rural-urban male migration in Andhra Pradesh, India, is analysed based on 1971 migration data. A log-linear functional form is used to explain the process of rural-urban migration. Agricultural prosperity is seen to accelerate rural out-migration. Out-migration from rural areas has been influenced by the demands created in the urban industrial sector. Social factors, such as literacy, size of land holding and income have played a predominant role in accelerating the process of rural-urban migration.
