Clinical longitudinal studies were carried out on tangential bridges with porcelain and acrylate veneering, and open bridges over a time period of 12 month. The changes in the Plaque Indices and in the SFFR values as against the instant of fitting-in the bridges and also in comparison to the homologous natural teeth were quoted from the results. An improvement in hygiene becomes obvious after fitting-in the tangential bridges with porcelain veneering and is kept constant over the period of examination. Bridges with acrylate veneering show an increase in the Plaque Indices and SFFR values after 3 month. Plaque accumulation on open bridges is unexpectedly high.
