Derivatives of amino acids prepared by treatment with 1-dimethylaminonaphthalene 5-sulpho-chloride were separated by thin-layer chromatography on silica gel. The derivatives in amounts as little as 10-11 to 10-10 mole are estimated directly on the chromatographic plate from their luminescence after excitation by ultraviolet light.
