Multisite intradermal vaccination using tissue culture vaccine as an economical prophylactic regimen against rabies

In view of the high cost of human diploid cell vaccine and purified chick embryo cell vaccine, for post exposure prophylaxis against rabies a multisite intradermal regimen with reduced quantities of these vaccines was assessed for post-exposure prophylaxis in 200 babies patients. Substantial and prolonged antibody titres were obtained with this regimen which was found to be safe, effective and acceptable to the patients. Further the cost of the treatment with this regimen was only one fourth the normal cost of the treatment. This regimen can be recommended with monitoring of the antibody titres, for those patients who can afford it.
