The present study describes a microsurgical technique in the rat model for end-to-end uretero-ureterostomy using a horizontal U manual microsuture for telescopic anastomosis of the ureteral ends. Ten rats comprised the experimental study. Of these one died 3 days post-operatively from a ureteral fistula, and slight ureteral dilatation was observed in 3. The remaining 6 showed normal urographic images, serum urea, and creatinin levels. Because this microsurgical technique is simple and can be performed quickly, it may be a valid alternative to uretero-ureterostomy by discontinuous manual suture for orthotopic transplantation of the rat kidney.
