Formaldehyde concentration in the air in disinfection measures

Under defined laboratory conditions the spray disinfection of areas of walls and floor was accomplished with solutions of formaldehyde of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 p.c. Depending on the time of influence the concentration of formaldehyde in the air was determined according to the method with pararosaniline. A lowering of the used concentration from 1.5 to 0.5 p.c. resulted in a decrease to circ. a quarter of the contents of formaldehyde in the air. Further investigations enclose the influence of the exchange of the air and of the humidity of the air on the contents of formaldehyde in the air. Thus lower concentrations of formaldehyde were measured in the case of higher relative humidity in the air. The exchange of the air of less than 8 times per hour influenced the temporal course only, above this value, however, it influenced essentially the amount of the contents of formaldehyde. By using existing possibilities of aeration after the end of the time of influence of 4 hours a falling below the maximum concentration at the place of employment is obtainable in the case of application of preparations with reduced contents of formaldehyde (e.g. Kombinal VETASEPT). Prerequisites are numbers of air exchange of > 8 per hour.
