A total of 48 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated from the environment and clinically infected hospitalized children of pediatric ward. The frequncy of isolation of pseudomonas was high both in the environment (21.5%) and in patients (44%). On aeruginosine in typing (Darell and Wahba method) 42 strains (81.5%) were found typable, of which 54.7% were classifiable and 45.2% unclassifiable. Eighteen aeuriginocine typing patterns were related. Six strains were found non-typable (12.5%). The common types encountered were A (21.4%); B, one and five types unclassifiable strains (7.1% each). Antimicrobial sensitivity of Ps. aeruginosa to polymyxin B-sulphate (92%) carbenicillin (75%); gentamicin (73%); carbenicillin and gentamicin in combination (77%); streptomycin (15%); terramyane (6%); nalidixic acid, chloramphenicol, kanamycin and ampicillin (2% each) was recorded.
